The personnel grant has provided a community school coordinator who will conduct a needs assessment to determine services and resources needed for Henry Highland Garnet  Elementary school’s students’ and families’.  In order to identify the needs of our families and students, a survey will be given to students in grades four and five, all parents, and all staff members. Below is a link for the survey. We are asking all families to complete the survey by December 13th.

After the needs assessment is completed HHGES will build a collaborative team that will identify the needs of students and families. This team will consist of the school’s community school coordinator, principal, healthcare worker, and the PTA.  Allocation of funds will be based on our specific school needs.

Research has shown that community school models work. We believe that having this opportunity to become a community school HHGES will see school-wide positive effects on academic performance, family and community engagement, attendance, absenteeism, and discipline and health issues. Garnet Elementary hopes to give teachers and community organizations the opportunity for tremendous learning and success for students.
