Dear Parents/Guardians:
Children need healthy meals to learn. Kent County Public Schools offers healthy meals every day. Breakfast costs $1.55 for all students at Kent County High School. H.H.Garnet Elementary School, Galena Elementary School, Rock Hall Elementary School and Kent County Middle School participate in Maryland Meals for Achievement, providing free breakfasts for all students. Lunch costs $2.50 for elementary students and $2.75 for secondary students. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced-priced meals. Reduced price is $.30 for breakfast and $.40 for lunch.
Community Eligibility Provision Program
In the 2019-2020 school year, Garnet Elementary School and Rock Hall Elementary School will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program. This is a federal program available to select schools as part of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Program All students attending these schools are eligible to receive breakfast and lunch at no charge, regardless of family or household income.

The Board of Education recognizes that good health fosters student attendance, education and achievement, and lifelong healthy habits. The Board of education recognizes that students need nourishing foods and physical activity in order to grow, learn and thrive. The Board acknowledges the necessity for the school system to ensure that the school environment promotes and protects students' health and ability to learn by providing nutrition education, health education, education, physical activity, nutrition standards and school-based activities. The Board believes schools have a responsibility to help students develop the skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to adopt and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
