Board of Education approves updated 2022-23 school calendar

ROCK HALL — The Kent County Board of Education approved updates to this year's school calendar Monday, Sept. 12 to incorporate a Virtual Day Learning Plan.

The Virtual Day Learning Plan includes synchronous and asynchronous instruction days.

On synchronous days, students will receive real-time virtual instruction at home from teachers via live teleconferencing apps.

Asynchronous days provide flexibility for students and teachers, with prepared lessons and assignments sent home to be completed.

As approved, the Kent County Public Schools 2022-23 calendar now lists Wednesday, Nov. 2 as a synchronous day to test run virtual learning.

Four additional synchronous days are remaining unscheduled and will be used in the event of inclement weather.
The calendar continues to also include four traditional inclement weather days — or "snow days."

The Board of Education approved making Tuesday, Dec. 20 an asynchronous instruction day, with winter break to start the following day for families.

An early release day previously scheduled for Wednesday, April 5 has been moved up to Tuesday, April 4. April 5 will now be an asynchronous day with spring break then starting Thursday, April 6.

Friday, June 2 is Graduation Day at Kent County High School. It also has been set as an asynchronous day to allow staff to participate in the ceremony.

In addition, the Board of Education approved three holiday changes. Offices will now be closed on Friday, Dec. 23, Monday, Jan. 2 and Juneteenth, Monday, June 19.
