KCHS Technology Fee

We are excited to be able to continue to provide MacBook Airs for all students in grades 9-12 to fulfill an integral part of our mission to personalize learning for students. In order to help KCPS protect your child’s device, allow them to keep it throughout summer to complete any additional assignments, and to insure that it lasts until they graduate, we strongly encourage parents and guardians to select one of the following options:

  1. $40 annual technology fee paid to KCPS by October 1, 2019

  2. $75 annual technology fee paid to KCPS by October 1, 2019

  3. Proof of coverage from a homeowners or renter’s insurance policy

  4. Payments can be made through MySchoolBucks or by check mailed to Terri Smith, KCPS BOE, 5608 Boundary Ave, Rock Hall, MD 21661 (payments will not be collected at KCHS.)

Repairs to devices can be costly. If no coverage is selected, the family will be liable for any damage or replacement costs. Below are the most common issues and the cost of repair:

  • LCD screen replacement due to bent corner or crack + 1 hour labor: $315.00

  • Logic board replacement due to liquid spill + 2 hours labor: $749.00

  • Top case with keyboard replacement due to damaged corners + 4 hours labor: $259.00

  • Trackpad damaged due to cracking or poking + 1 hour labor: $141.00

  • Full replacement of laptop: $849.00

It is extremely important that students keep the plastic cover on the laptop and carry it in the protective bag that is provided. These two items are proven to be effective in preventing typical damages. 

A technology Fee Payment Plan is available to those who wish to split the fee over a period of time. Please see the chart below for more detail.
