Welcome to Galena Middle School

We have had a great start to the school year so far. Our students have been actively involved in PBIS, Positive Behavior Intervention Systems, and attended a Family Drive-In Movie Night. Many more events are coming as the year moves forward. We are focusing on the three R's of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY and READY.

We are pleased to welcome several new faces to the Galena Middle School staff.

Miss Becca Bigelow - 5th Grade Mathematics

Mrs. Laurie Hogans 5th Grade Language Arts

Mr. George Klein - 7/8 Social Studies

Mr. Barry Conner - 7/8 Science

Ms. Chris Dolan - 5-8 Special Educator

Mrs. Karen Frison - Choral Instruction

School doors open at 8:20am for students to wait in the lobby or go to breakfast. Busses begin unloading at 8:30 am. Instruction begins daily at 8:50am. It is essential that all students arrive on time and are prepared for instruction.

Currently we do not have a before the bell program, as funding becomes available and this changes families will be notified of the change. Thanks for your patience.

If you need immediate assistance please do not hesitate to contact us through email, phone, or fax or set a conference. If you are calling after regular school hours, please use the second line to the school: 410-648-5129. We also have a fax machine: 410-648-6881.

Please look to this site throughout the year for any updates. We will post our calendar of events, student and staff news, copies of our newsletters, and additional information for families. We are continuing to use the Powerschool electronic system for report cards. Parents are encouraged to monitor and support their child's progress in school through the Parent Access program at KCPS. Additional information will be linked to the site.

We also have information about the Parent Access program that is new for this year. Additional information will be made available later in the year.

Linked to the site are some important places for information including a copy of the official KCPS Middle School Handbook that has been revised for this school year. The handbook may answer many procedural questions for parents and students.

So many opportunities and challenges confront young people today. Please talk to your child. Listen. If you have any questions about your child’s progress in school, please contact the teacher via the email system (see the email list on this website) or call the school to make an appointment for a conference (410-648-5132.)

Again, I look forward to this great year at GMS. If you have any questions, concerns, or compliments, please contact us at the school.
